The last bits of a great summer

September is here and so are the sweet cool breezes— aaahhhh! These last few weeks have been a blast. LOTS of beach time, movies in the park, PRIDE festival, gardening, Jay Cooke camping and our dear friends Eric and Katie’s wedding, grad school starting for me, a new front door (picture to follow- currently we have a piece of plywood screwed to the opening, super glamorous I know!) The weather has been amazing. Warm, nourishing sun and lots of rain for the garden.

CCCHHHEEEEEEESSSEEEEE!

Kiera sporting a necklace that Katchy brought back from Africa. We are pseudo starting homeschooling this year. She picked out four folders (Hello Kitty, Barbie, Tinkerbell, and Dora) and a butterfly notebook. Every couple of day she will be coloring a picture of what she did, the weather, etc. etc. She is enjoying painting, gluing things on paper, cutting scrap paper, and making fairy boxes. Her people drawings are getting more intricate and her sudden desire to stay in the lines (most of the time) is super cute.  Ballet and yoga classes along with Namaste will be her Fall routine.

Sully sporting Mama’s hat. His vocab is exploding everyday! Lots of “B” and “P” words. We had Martin’s dad’s dog with us for a few days and he kept calling him Beau. I suppose the concept that “Bear” is a dog is a bit much for a one year old. He loves coloring (for a few moments at least) on paper with Sissie, as long as he isn’t chewing on the marker that is. Every morning he wakes up before Kiera in our bed and listens intently for her door to open. Upon the first creak of her door he squeals “Sissie, Sissie!” Makes my heart melt every time!  He loves pushing Kiera’s stroller around (and around and around) the house whilst making car noises… he is a little silly goose! He has his molars, three bottom teeth, and four upper.

Silly siblings hanging out at Zannie’s. It has been amazing to see their relationship grow.

A chilly beach day. The waves were fantastic! We sat on our fleece blanket (that was fortunately still in the car from movies in the park) and ate peanuts and drank chocolate milk.

Eek! Grad school starting- this is my first class. Onward and upward! Intro to assessment, into to theories, and marriage and family comprise my first semester.

I would consider our first garden attempt quite a success. Cukes, yellow tomatoes, carrots, jalapenos, herbs, and kale have been the main staples. Hopefully zucchini to come!

Photo taken September 6th- the garden still has some life left in it! Note to self: next year DON’T put the cukes next to the herbs.

Labor Day 2010. A very windy and smoky attempt at a good time. We headed to Brighton Beach…

To have a fire and good eats. The wind was so ferocious that we were basically smoked out- however a good time was had by all! Kiera so desperately wanted to roast marshmallows and hot dogs- mission accomplished.

Goofy siblings and “hi Kiera”

The heat and humidity continues- goofy siblings loving life!

(Not sure how to flip the picture… this will have to do)

Kiera was in charge of scrap booking her page for this summer. When I asked if she wanted me to write “By Kiera”, she replied “No, I don’t want it to say bye, I want it to say hi Kiera!”

Night at the races

Our first night at the races! It was at UMD- great experience! The campus has changed so much since Martin and I went there (wow, that makes us sound… old!)

Rockstar Kiera getting pumped up and ready to run!

We have been spending lots of time with Stella.

Sully gave it a good go. Running in a straight line wasn’t his forte but he sure had fun!

The best part about Kiera’s day: “running at the race”. The not so best part: “leaving the race”.

Many friends; new and old.

Friends new and old paid visits to kiera today as we waited for the doctors to come get her. Grandmas, grandpas, and good friends were with us when the nurse came to wheel her bed down the hall.

Her spirit was good as she was explained the process she would experience. She even had a few things to say about it herself. “Don’t cover my fumb, ok!”

Papa was able to hold her hand as she was put under (not an experience I wish to have again). She fell asleep quickly and we now wait, for the wonderful doctors to work their magic, sitting here in the waiting room. This has to be the worst part even though we are reassured of the doctors’ greatness.

It shouldn’t be long before the doctor comes to inform us of the procedure. We will be sure to update and have pictures…
