Kiera showing off Mama’s tears (first trimester of pregnancy, need I say more?)
She broke my heart when she said, “Mama, you can wipe your tears on my shirt.” The lesson she taught me today? “Just breath, life isn’t so bad!”

“I help Mama!”

Mama: “Kiera, let’s go outside to play in your new house.”
Kiera: “No, can’t go outside play in my new house. I no have onions.” (Where she got the thought of onions from only the good Lord knows.)
Mama: “What? Why don’t you have any onions?” (Was that the right response?)
Kiera: “Mom, you have to say porque no why.” (We have been teaching her to say porque instead of why, I guess it is working.)
Mama: “Porque, Kiera?”
Kiera: “Cuz Papa take them to work to eat them, just in case.”
Mama: “Just in case of what?”
Kiera: “I don’t know…” “Mom I go play outside with crackers in my new house.” (Change of topic, enough questions Mom!)
Kiera’s faves…
Dora the Explorer, playing in her new backyard house, counting to uno, dos, tres, playing with Ella, talking about Mama and Papa’s new baby, including the words “maybe” and “just in case” into nearly every sentence, sandwiches, pretend making pancakes and muffins, talking on the phone, playing at the park, drinking aqua, reading her gorilla book, “porque?”, “reading” books to Mama and Papa…

and yes, fighting her way through a few temper tantrums… she is two years old after all!
The first time was a bit different. I suppose “it” is never the same. But this time “it” was really different. There were tears, laughter, and smiles. Kiera climbed up on the chair where I sat and looked me in the eyes and asked “moma, ok?” in her sweetest most caring voice. “Oh, my yes”, was my response. I was, I mean am ok. Very ok. Martin is ok too, Kiera as well. Spring rolls with our closet friends will never ever be the same again.
And this is why…

Need we say more?
Well, we have said more. Lots more. Throughout the course of the night Kiera repeated the words Mama, Baby, Tummy to our family over the phone. (With the addition of “no see it yet”) The pause over the phone seemed to last forever. A nervous silence filled the room. They wanted to believe they understood what she said but didn’t want to be wrong. They weren’t wrong. Mama does have a baby in her tummy. Another baby spirit has chosen to come into our lives.
We are blessed. Oh so blessed.
